View Thread : Do you use OpenOffice instead of MS Office?

Openoffice really high level software package, which can do all tasks related to office works including writing documents, creating spreadsheets, preparing presentations, creating databases, etc. I see no significant difference from expensive MS Office package. So far all tasks can be done with Opensource. The only thing I have noticed is that it runs bit slower in older computers. I would say Home users do not need MS office for simple tasks like document writing. How about you - do you use OpenOffice or you prefer to stick with MS Office?

I"m using OpenOffice since I can't afford to buy MS Office.
OpenOffice is a reasonably competent office productivity suite for a large number of users ... and for me, it is enough

I would prefer MS Office. Your right that OpenOffice works slower in older computers because it requires high(not that high) specs.
Another things is that MS Office is the most common office software that the people are using.
But it depend on what sofware you are comfortable using.

OpenOffice has the advantage of being cross platform. Personally I use both.
